Angul / Bhubaneswar : National Highway No. 55 running from Manguli Chak till Sambalpur has seen the maximum number of fatality in the past few years. The most recent being the Bus mishap near Tukuda in Angul district of Odisha. Six persons died in the same and many injured are still in intensive care and fighting for survival. CM Naveen Patnaik was quick to announce a compensation of Rs.2,00,000/- for the kith & kin of the deceased. “This was an accident which received a lot of hype by the TV channels. Thus this compensation was announced, in several other fatalities not even small time local news papers covered it and non of the family members of the numerous deceased have ever received any Govt. aid or compensation” said a top official of the district administration while requesting anonymity.
Eminent socio-political leader and Chairman of SNSMT Shri. Suparno Satpathy has been flagging the NH 55 issue since a long time. With his intervention the UPA-1 & UPA-2 had conducted preliminary surveys and a tender too had been floated for the expansion of the said road. However, nothing happened and a new regime of Government took over in May 2014 . The Union Cabinet of the current date Modi Sarkar has already approved budgets for the expansion of the said road .The same has been approved for a Public Private Partnership (PPP) – Build Operate Transfer (BOT) model. In the same once the road is built by the contractor, the users would need to pay a Toll for using the same.
“The Dhenkanal- Angul area is a notified Government backward grant funded zone. Both the state and central Governments recognize that the residents of this area are financially challenged. Thus affixing a road usage charge will further financially burden this zone. More so there are a number of small, medium and large industries who shall reap more benefits from the expansion of this road. More so the swollen traffic flow on this road is an outcome of the ill planned industrialization, allowed by the Government to mushroom on the banks of this road. As it is, the road tax charged by Odisha Govt. is one of the highest in the country. These are a few points because of which we have apprehensions to this BOT. Throughout the country the judiciary has been intervening , setting precedence and undoing the Toll collections model. Then why must we begin on a wrong footing for this road? We welcome the steps taken by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. He has allocated budgets for this road. All that is needed is, a bit of tweaking in the construction contract of this road and things should be good” said Shri. Suparno Satpathy.
Shri. Satpathy has tweeted two photographs of the dilapidated condition of the Sarang Bridge on Brahmani River in Angul District. It was noticed by this reporter that Nitin Gadkari & Naveen Patnaik had been tagged in the same tweet.

Balasore: Today a HIV effected man was cremated in front of his house at Tentei village in Soro block of Balasore district in Odisha as the villagers refused to allow his last rites to be held at the village cremation ground at Hansianipada.
The deceased, Jaydev Jena (name changed)(35) , used to live in Mumbai where he contacted with HIV. As his health deteriorated, he returned to his village Tentei .He was being treated at SCB Cuttack where he died.
The local police did try reasoning with the villagers, but they could not as they were adamant over not allowing an HIV victim to be cremated at a public cremation ground.
With villagers refusing to budge, the family members had to light the funeral pyre in front of their house.
The wife of the deceased is also a HIV positive and one of their children too had died of the same.
This discrimination against a dead HIV patient was witnessed only a few days after the Union Government of India approved an amendments to the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2014 which safeguards the rights of people living with and affected by the HIV virus.

Sudhansu Kumar Dalai
Dhenkanal : In a miraculous manner with only 4 BJP councilors out of the total of 23 councilors today Sudhansu Kumar Dalai councilor of ward number 12 was elected the Chairman of Dhenkanal Municipality Corporation in a by poll.
A few days back Indramani Behera (of ward No.11)of BJD was the Chairman however he had lost a no confidence motion brought against him and subsequently the Municipality had gone under the control of the DM cum Collector. Surprisingly he too had been elected with just 8 BJD councilors where as the majority mark stood 12.
Today in a major setback to Odisha Pradesh Congress, 8 out of the 11 Congress councilors resigned from their party. It is still unclear as to how Sudhansu won the election. A huge victory rally gathered to felicitate the victor. The DM cum Collector and the SP of Dhenkanal district congratulated him. Union Minister Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP Odisha Chief Shri. Bhubaneswar : Today on the official Twitter handle of Odisha’s No.1 Tv channel OTv a tweet with Muharram Mubarak was put out and the same has been strongly condemned by the Muslim community.
The same was first brought to notice by the digital team of Smt. Nandini Satpathy Mememorial Trust (SNSMT). To the same OTv was graceful to remove the said offensive Tweet but not before the sentiments of the Muslim community had already been hurt.
“Muharram is the name of a month & its the first month in Islamic calendar the ‘Muharram’ which is famous and is being in question is the 10th Day of the month which is also called as Ashura(10 in Arabic). The historical significance of this date makes it special and sadly on the same day Hassan & Hussain (Grandchildren of The Prophet) were martyred. The procession (spilling of blood) which you see is mourning by shias and most sunnis just fast on those days as a way of mourning. Its not a festival to Greet or celebrate. Greeting a Muslim with ‘Muharram Mubarak’ is extremely offensive” said Shaik Siddiq an online expert on Muslim History.
OTv was not the only one on Twitter to commit this blunder a similar offensive message had also been tweeted at the official Twitter handle of Mayfair Hotels. They too were informed of the same by Team SNSMT and they too were graceful to remove the said offensive tweet.
“We have time and again been maintaining that the education system of Odisha is in the dumps. Such insensitive blunders are one of the results of the said. We are fortunate that the promoters of both OTv and Mayfair Hotels are intelligent , responsible , sensitive and understanding human beings. Both of them immediately acted and pulled out the said Tweets after the digital team of SNSMT flagged the issue. We are very fortunate that no radicalizing organization took this to notice and no communal agitation took place in Odisha. Otherwise history is witness that similar instances have resulted into major communal violence” said eminent socio-political leader and the Chairman of SNSMT Shri. Suparno Satpathy
This reporter tried taking the reaction from the promoters of OTv and Mayfair Hotels but was avoided.
New Delhi : Ministry of Railways today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Odisha government for cost sharing of two new railway line projects.
The agreement was signed for sharing cost of laying two new lines— Jeypore–Malkangiri and Jeypore–Nabarangpur— in Odisha which was approved in the last Railway budget.
The state government had agreed to partly bear the cost of these projects. For the Jeypore – Malkangiri project stretching over 130 km, it would bear 25% of the total cost whereas it would bear entire land cost and 50% cost of construction for the Jeypore – Nabarangpur project.
“Odisha is a focus state for Indian Railways. The speed of implementation of projects will take Odisha ahead in rail connectivity. Odisha has minerals, tourism potential, etc. But development is lacking due to lack of connectivity. State government alone cannot bring in connectivity. So Indian Railways is doing its part to improve the connectivity in Odisha. To improve the connectivity infrastructure in a particular state, Indian Railways is now forming joint venture with state governments which also includes Odisha. Sharing of ownership will lead to more leverage in creating connectivity in the state. 11 Railway stations including Bhubaneswar have been planned to be taken up for renovation . Indian Railways is planning to develop Odisha as a tourism hub through IRCTC. Indian Railways through its PSU, IRCTC has also planned to market products of tribal SHGs in Odisha. Indian Railways has also planned to open a Rail Factory in Kalahandi,” said Union Cabinet Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu
During the signing of the MoU,Union Cabinet Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister of State Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha state Transport and Commerce Minister Ramesh Jena and MP Jhina Hikaka were present.
