Bhubaneswar : Today a large conglomeration of farmers from all over Odisha had been called in front of the Odisha Legislative Assembly (OLA) to protest against the current BJD Government. The protest meet had been called by Navanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) a leading farmers organization. Three main points of this protest were Price, Pension and Prestige for the farmers of Odisha.
The Government intelligence dept. had apprised the ruling side that a large number of farmers were to assemble for the said protest. Fearing the same Chief Minister Shri. Naveen Patnaik took personal interest and passed on information to the Police High ups to carry out a crack down and to ensure that this protest does not occur. In the past, Police high ups had once lapsed in their duty and members of the same NKS had obstructed the entourage of the CM while he was travelling from his residence to the Central Secretariat of Odisha. For the same a few Police high ups had been suspended then. Being fearful of reoccurrence of a similar situation, the current set of Police high ups did not take any chance in their crack down. The Police to sabotage the said protest, went on a rampage. Several leaders were arrested and thousands of protestors travelling to Bhubaneswar were detained at several places. Former MP and the President of Ama Odisha Party Shri. Soumya Ranjan Patnaik who is also an advisor of NKS was also arrested in Bhubaneswar in this regard.
Union Minister Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan, Eminent Socio-Political leader Shri. Suparno Satpathy and a few other leaders took to twitter to express their condemnation for this Police excess on farmers.
MLAs lead by Leader of Opposition Shri. Narasingha Mishra today created ruckus on the floor of the Legislative Assembly demanding an explanation from the CM for the Police excess on the peacefully protesting farmers. OLA was adjourned for the same.
A group of MLAs lead by MLA Shri. Tara Prasad Bahinipati also marched to the Raj Bhawan to appraise the Hon’ble Governor of Odisha regarding the said matter. Our sources tell us that Governor Shri. SC Jamir has ordered for a report on this.
