Odia IPS Amulya Patnaik is appointed CP of Delhi

New Delhi: Odia IPS officer Amulya Patnaik was today appointed as the Commissioner of Delhi Police. Patnaik is an Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre 1985-batch IPS officer.  Patnaik was serving as the Special Commissioner (General Administration) in Delhi Police.

Patnaik shall be taking over from Alok Verma, who a few days back was appointed as the Chief of CBI .

Elephant attack injures forest officials in Odisha


Athagarh: Today afternoon seven forest department officials were injured, one of them seriously when an injured elephant attacked them inside the Athagarh Forest Range in Cuttack district.

On 19th of Jan the Forest department officials had located a limping elephant in Sukasana forest as an abandoned tyre had got stuck on the elephant’s leg.

The Forest officials failed to tranquilise the elephant, instead they were attacked by the same elephant and  seven of them got injured in the same. Promod Behera a forest guard was seriously injured as the elephant lifted him with its trunk and crushed him under its feet after crashing him on the ground. However, his life has been saved.

Indramani Nath, the tranquiliser expert engaged by the forest department, told this reporter that the operation to tranquilise the injured elephant has been temporarily put on hold. “The elephant is injured, it is now in an aggressive mood. We shall wait for 4-5 days and re-try the tranquilising exercise” he added.

HC lifts the stay on Panchayat polls at Parjang , Dhenkanal


Bhubaneswar: The interim stay imposed by the Orissa High Court on holding  Panchayat polls at ParjangZilla Parishad zone-2, Muktapasi Gram Panchayat and at Pathara Khamaba Gram Panchayat has been lifted. The said fall under the Parjang block of Dhenkanal district.

Rabindra Nath Sahu, Secretary, Odisha State Election Commission on 20 Jan 2017 at a press meet said, “On December 27, notification was issued for conducting elections for total 853 Zilla Parishad zones. Subsequently, two Zilla Parishad zones had been excluded abiding to the Orissa High Court directive. One of the two excluded was Parjang-2 in Dhenkanal district. Meanwhile, the High Court has lifted its interim stay. Hence, we announce Panchayat poll schedule for the Zilla Parishad zone and also for Muktapasi Gram Panchayat and Pathara Khamaba Gram Panchayat of Parjang block in Dhenkanal district.”

“As per the poll schedule, filing of nomination process will begin from January 21. It will for five days i.e. on January 21, 24, 25, 27 and 28. On January 29, the nomination papers will be scrutinised. On February 1 till 3 pm, those who desires to withdraw can do so. The election to this Parjang-2 Zilla Parishad zone will be held on February 21, he added.”

It is to be noted that (BJD) MLA of Parjang Dr. Nrushingha Sahu’s daughter-in-law is to contest from the said ZP zone on a BJD ticket and she is tipped to be a contender for the post of Dhenkanal ZP Chairman.

Suparno Satpathy ‘s wife narrowly escapes a car blast


New Delhi : A Skoda Superb car caught fire on its own in front of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Head Quarters. To the same the agile officials of NDMA jumped into action and rescued a lady from the burning car. Bystanders said that the car blasting into flames was a horrific sight and the rescue of the passenger from the burning car was short of a miracle.

This incident was tweeted by @ndmaindia the official twitter handle of NDMA. To the same noted sicio-political leader and Chairman of Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT) Shri. Suparno Satpathy reacted with a quote tweet from his official twitter handle @SuparnoSatpathy ,expressing his gratitude for saving his wife.

Smt. Kanchan Satpathy was driving the car her self. She escaped from the blast very narrowly with no injuries.

Vigilance raids at family owned Gas agency of Union Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan


Talcher: Odisha Vigilance sleuths today conducted raid at a gas agency office in Talcher town of Angul district. The Gas agency is owned by Soumendra Kumar Pradhan elder brother of Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister of State Dharmendra Kumar Pradhan.

According to reports, two teams of Cuttack Vigilance Cell and Angul Vigilance Cell conducted the raids at M/s Pradhan’s Gas Service.

Raids were also carried out at various petrol pumps and gas agencies in Puri, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Khordha.

Vigilance officials requesting anonymity said that there are several serious irregularities which have been found and that necessary shall follow.

Lady raped at gunpoint by six-Odisha


Jharsuguda :  A lady has reported of being raped at gunpoint by six unidentified men in a SUV  late evening on 11 of Jan 2017. According to police,the lady who is about 25 years of age resides with her husband in a rented house at Belpahar town . The victim registered her complaint at Belpahar police station. It is reported that she was returning home after purchasing medicine for her ailing husband and all of a sudden, the men dragged her into an SUV and  raped her in turns while driving towards Lakhanpur. It is reported that they dumped the lady on the out skirts of Belpahar at around 9.30 pm.

She has mentioned in the complaint that the accused were talking in Hindi and that from their conversations she could pick two names Sameer Khan and  Raja. She has mentioned in the complaint that she has been threatened of dire consequences if she told any one about the incident.

The police said that the investigations are on, the primary medical examination of the lady suggest that she was raped and that the culprits shall very soon be nabbed.

Suparno Satpathy appeals for 23 Jan as Patriots Day


Bhubaneswar :  Noted socio-political leader and Chairman of SNSMT Shri. Suparno Satpathy today released a video message on Facebook & Twitter , demanding the notification of 23rd of January as ‘Patriots Day’
Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT) along with several other organisations since long have been associated with the movement for Declassification of Netaji Files. Ever since pre-independence era there have been several files on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose which have been kept classified. As believed by many, declassification of these files shall unearth the truth about the greatness of Netaji and that history of post independence India will need to be rewritten to accommodate Netaji’s due space in the same.
Supporting this movement CM of West Bengal Ms. Mamata Banerjee was the first to declassify 64 Netaji Files available in Kolkata. Following her, PM of India Sh. Narendra Modi on 23 Jan 2016 declassified 100 Netaji Files. Ever since then, the National Archives of India for the past 10 months has been declassifing 25 Netaji Files every month.
