Swiss President Doris Leuthard to visit India

New Delhi: President Doris Leuthard to visit India for a three-day. India and Switzerland are set to expand bilateral ties during this visit.

President Leuthard is to meet President Ram Nath Kovind and  Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Indian side most likely shall be taking up the matter of illegal money stashed by Indians in Swiss banks.

President Leuthard shall be accompanied by senior Swiss government officials and a large business delegation of leading Swiss companies.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, members of the council of ministers including the minister for external affairs are also scheduled to call on the Swiss president separately.

PM Modi had visited Switzerland in June last year during which the country had announced its support to India’s membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) During the said visit the two countries had resolved to strengthen cooperation in combating tax evasion and blackmoney. PM Modi, had said that combating the menace of black money and tax evasion was ‘ priority’ for both the countries.

Puri-Haridwar Kalinga Utkal Express derails- 23 dead

Muzaffarnagar/ Bhubaneswar  : 14 coaches of Puri-Haridwar Kalinga Utkal Express derailed near Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh at around 5:50 pm. 23 passengers are feared dead and more than 40 are seriously injured.

This fateful train left Puri on August 17 and was scheduled to reach Haridwar at 9 pm on August 19.  As per railway records a total of 86 reserved status passengers had boarded the train from Puri.

Four teams of NDRF personnel are reportedly working on the accident spot.

International Youth Day 2017 observed by SNSMT

Bhubaneswar  (12 Aug 2017): Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust  (SNSMT) today commemorated the 18th International Youth Day (IYD). A meeting of SNSMT volunteers from all over the state was held today at the Smt. Nandini Satpathy Hall at the SNSMT head quarters here.
On the occasion, eminent socio-political leader and the Chairman of SNSMT Shri. Suparno Satpathy addressed the gathering. The United Nations for IYD 2017 is following a theme of ‘youth for peace’. Speaking on the occasion Shri. Satpathy said ” Peace is the only force which takes us forward”. In his addressed he mentioned Vevekananda, Mahatma Gandhi,  Subash Chandra Bose,  Sri Aurobindo, Rabindranath Tagore, Nandini Satpathy and a few other great leaders who firmly belived in one common goal of ‘Peace’ but each followed their own path towards it.
The meeting was concluded with an oath taking ceremony in which all the SNSMT volunteers pledged to follow the call of ‘Peace’ ,under what-so-ever be the circumstance or provocation.

Ivanka Trump shall lead the US delegation to India for GES

Washington / New Delhi: US President Donald Trump ’s daughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump shall be leading the US delegation to India for the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) which is scheduled to be held at Hydrabad 28-30 November 2017.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too confirmed about Ivanka Trump’s visit on his own Twitter handle.

Mary Kay Carlson, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in New Delhi, said “US-India ties have been growing every year with more trade, more travel, and greater people-to-people ties”. She added “The Global Entrepreneurship Summit is the latest example of how we are working together to advance the promise of an increasingly digital world and the remarkable entrepreneurial skills of our people to promote prosperity”.

Political oponents of Narendra Modi in India have criticised this move by him of allowing Ivanka Trump to act as a surrogate for her father in an International affairs. They claimed that Ivanka has no constitutional standing in the USA, for India to be entertaining her. In  July 2017 Ivanka Trump had been heavily criticised after she briefly sat in for her father at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.

Owner of Pal Heights dies under mysterious circumstances

Bhubaneswar: Five members of city-based hotelier Satpal Singh’s household died of suffocation when fire broke out in their Budheswari colony residence in Bhubaneswar early this morning.

Satpal Singh, his son Gagan Singh and others are the owners of Pal Heights Hotel at Jaydev Vihar here. He has narrowly escaped death but has sustained serious injuries. He is undergoing treatment in government-run Capital Hospital here. The deceased have been identified as Satpal’s son Gagan Pal Singh (40), daughter-in-law Bhawna Singh (38), grandson Rubir Singh and granddaughter Sohabi Singh. Their domestic help identified as Khushi Das too died on the way to the hospital.

As told to this reporter smoke was spotted by neighbours in 4.30 am this morning. They tried to inform security guards in the Pal household but were unsuccessful in doing so, then they informed the police control room whon then informed the fire service station.

“We received the information about 5.18 am. We tried our best” said Ramesh Chandra Majhi, fire officer.

Police said that this incident  seems strange, it certainly raises suspicion and that their investigating into the incident is on.

 

Santosh Mohan Dev is dead

Silchar: Today Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Santosh Mohan Dev took to his eternal journey. He was 83. Dev a seven-time Congress MP had held various positions in the Congress government. He was the Heavy Industry Minister in the UPA-I government. He also served as Minister of State (MoS) for Communications from 1986-1988 and MoS for Home between 1988-1989.

He was MoS I/C Steel Ministry in the P.V. Narasimha Rao government in 1991.

AICC President  Sonia Gandhi expressed her solidarity with Dev’s family and supporters, particularly with Congress MP Sushmita Dev.

Several leaders took to twitter to express their condolences.
